Limelight Casinos: Blacklist |
So which sites are fraudulent?
Which should you be cautious on? Which should you avoid completely? It
happened when people started purchasing everyday objects online, so it is
no surprise that there is a concentrated aversion to playing poker online.
People must question the integrity of these poker sites otherwise bogus
websites would just steal any chance a player has of winning some money.
One of the first things to scare potential players is the locations of
some of these websites. If the home base of a poker site is in a
jurisdiction separate from the most of the players then they could be
highly likely engaging in fraud. Some of the ways these blacklisted sites
commit fraud are by having non-random card dealing, meaning players
employed by the house or bots are favored with the better cards. Or making
the game easier for beginners so as not to scare them away from the game.
However, there is little more than anecdotal evidence to support such
claims, and others argue that the rake is sufficiently large that such
abuses would be unnecessary and foolish. But the fear is instigated by
continually seeing large pots which is not very common in live play. The
devil’s advocate would say that the large pots seem more prominent because
online play is at a higher rate of speed and a player will play close to
one hundred hands per hour. Sometimes there is good reason to be
suspicious. Absolute Poker recently caught a trusted employee cheating in
October 2007. He had access to the system and had been able to play high
stakes while having the ability to see his opponent’s hands.
Just because an internet poker room offers incentives to play does not
mean they are fraudulent sites. For example, a site may offer a player who
deposits one hundred dollars a bonus of fifty dollars once he plays five
hundred raked hands. A player can add to the winnings with the use of
bonuses or at least break even. There are also reload bonuses which are
VIP programs set up to reward faithful players with additional bonuses if
they wish to top up their accounts. In the end if an incentive program
looks too good to be true it does not necessarily mean it is.
The Kahnawake Gaming Commission certifies many online poker sites. These
sites have been proven to be fair in the random number generator, shuffle
and payout categories. There are other auditing firms like
PricewaterhouseCoopers that review the fairness of these sites. Remember
to check which sites are certified. If the site you gamble on is on this
list cease and desist. You are being bamboozled into thinking you are
having a good time.
